Description:
A fine and imposing George III bracket clock in an inverted bell top case decorated with well patinated red lacquer. The break arch brass dial is mounted with a silvered chapter ring, subsidiary strike silent ring and rococo spandrels. The plain silvered centre is signed by the maker Benjamin Ward, London and there is a centred disc for an alarm setting wound by pulling the cord on the side of the case. The twin fusee eight day duration movement has a verge escapement and hour strike sounded on a bell. The backplate is engraved with chinoiserie decoration. Benjamin Ward is recorded as working at George’s Fields, London from 1799 to 1808.
