RICHARD COLE, Cornhill, Ipswich c1810

  RICHARD COLE, Cornhill, Ipswich c1810
Description:

A fine and well-proportioned, two train, English trunk dial clock in a remarkably well preserved state.  The short drop trunk is veneered with good mahogany and the base has the chisel shape back to the wall.  Striking wall clocks of this design and period are very rare.

The 14ins wooden convex dial retains the original ground and the convex brass bezel retains the original lock.  Restoration is limited to some slight touching to the numerals and outer minutes.  The steel pointers are of a particularly elegant design.

The twin fusee, high quality, movement has an anchor escapement with hour strike sounded on a bell.
