Description:

An imposing and elegant Queen Anne quarter repeating spring table clock by one of the most eminent clockmakers.  The ebony veneered case stands on bold gadrooned gilt brass feet and has matching escutcheons to either side of the door.   The caddy top is mounted with gilt finished cast mounts to all four sides and a bold carrying handle above. 

The elongated six and a half inch by seven and a half inch brass dial is mounted with a silvered chapter ring and finely cast crown spandrels.  Above the chapter ring is a subsidiary date ring extending in an arch in the door within a border of engraved foliage. Beneath twelve o’clock is a false pendulum aperture and the finely pierced and faceted blued steel pointers are particularly elaborate.  Adjacent to nine o’clock is a strike silent option and the chapter ring is signed by the maker. 

The very substantial twin fusée eight day duration movement has a verge escapement and quarter repeating mechanism.  The quarters are sounded on six bells and the hours on a separate bell.  The back plate is engraved with scrolls and foliage around a polished area signed by the maker, Dan Quare, London. 

Daniel Quare was one of the most celebrated clockmakers of the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.  His finest work was produced in the eighteenth century and examples of his work can be seen in major locations in museums throughout the world.
