PAYNE, 163 NEW BOND STREET, LONDON c1840
Description:

A fine English carriage clock in a rosewood veneered four glass case standing on adjustable brass bun feet; the case rising to an ormolu carrying handle.

The two train fusée movement has a high quality compensated platform lever escapement, with maintaining power.  The hours are sounded on a gong and there is a soft/loud control operated from the side of the case - a rare but sought after feature.

The gilt brass dial is finely engraved within and around the roman chapter ring.  Both the dial and the back plate are signed by the maker.

Payne worked in London during the first half of the nineteenth century producing many fine mantel and carriage clocks.
