<span class="txtarea"><p>A fine William and Mary walnut and marquetry longcase clock of one month duration. The marquetry of bird and floral design is set against an ebony background. Standing on bun feet, there is a brass lenticle to the trunk door which rises to a slide-up hood with front opening door flanked by barley twist columns. </p> <p>The eleven inch square dial is mounted with a silvered chapter ring, seconds ring and cherub and foliage spandrels to the four corners. The dial plate has floral engraving between the spandrels and finely matted centre with the very rare feature of apertures showing the month, the day of the week and the day of the month. The steel hands are finely pierced and the chapter ring is signed by the maker Thomas Warden, London. </p> <p>The month duration movement is of a very high quality with the hours sounded on a bell via an outside countwheel and five finely turned pillars.</p> <p>Thomas Warden is recorded as working in London during the last quarter of the seventeenth century. He was apprenticed firstly to Thomas Overbury, a watchmaker, and then to Thomas Player. It is thought he died c1697 as there are no records of him after that date.</p> <p><br />Height: 6ft 8in (203 cm)</p></span>
