Description:

A fine and rare George III miniature three train musical bracket clock within a burr elm, three pad brass mounted case which stands only 8 inches high, excluding the handle. 

The white enamel dial with roman numerals and signature beneath twelve o’clock, includes subsidiary dials in the arch for chime/silent and music selector giving an option of four tunes.

The three train fusée movement has a duration of eight days offering a choice of four tunes played at three hour intervals.  The escapement is verge and the back plate beautifully engraved

Thomas Wagstaff is recorded as working in Carey Street and Gracechurch Street in the second half of the eighteenth century.  As well as making complex and, frequently, musical clocks, he was renowned for his watches.  Examples of his work are included in Metropolitan Museum of Art, Virginia Museum and the Ilbert Collection.
