Description:

A particularly high quality George III bracket clock in a small ebonised and brass bound triple pad top case which stands on brass feet and has a single carrying handle to the centre pad. 

The break arch brass dial is mounted with a silvered chapter ring and rococo spandrels.  There are two subsidiary dials in the arch flanking a cartouche signed by the maker, Alex Wilson, London.  The two subsidiary dials are for rise and fall regulation and strike/silent.  The finely matted centre of the dial has a recessed aperture at six o’clock giving the day of the month and an aperture below twelve o’clock for false pendulum. 

The twin fusée movement has a verge escapement with a spring suspended pendulum.  The hours are sounded on a bell.  The back plate is elegantly engraved with flowers around the maker’s signature.

Alex Wilson is recorded as working in Drury Lane, London and was Free of The Clockmakers’ Company from 1781.
