<span class="txtarea"><p> A stately George III mahogany veneered longcase clock.  The impressive case includes grooved quarter columns with brass spines to the trunk and base.  The hood is flanked by turned columns with brass capitals and inset brass spines.  The pagoda caddy supports three brass ‘flambeau’ finials.  </p><p>The high quality, five pillar, eight day duration movement strikes the hours on a bell and the break arch brass dial is mounted with rococo spandrels, silvered chapter ring, subsidiary seconds ring and a silvered cartouche signed by the maker.  </p><p>Francis Perigal is recorded as working in Threadneedle Street and The Royal Exchange.  He was a reputable maker, specialising in clocks and watches, several of which are included in the Guildhall Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum.   He was apprenticed in 1748, Free of the Clockmakers Company 1756 and Master in 1775. </p><p><br /> </p></span>
